My rank 279,993

Wow, just under 280,000. I sure have come a long way since my early days of blogging. Way back on September 7, 2006 I was a mere rank of 1,088,701. Now should I really be concerned with my ranking of today? When I compare myself to Citizen of the Month who is currently ranked at 6,292, I have a long way to go to be popular. There seems to be some angst over what to do about blog rolls and the effect it has on rankings and feelings.

If you have taken the time to review my site, you will notice that I don't have very many links to other blogs. First because it is freaking time consuming to put those links in there because I am not a HTML programmer and I find the new beta blogger just as inane; second because I am an anti-clutter the screen person so I don't want long lists of anything; third, again with the HTML, although I have that "bloglines" link in there it doesn't do anything even though I thought it was supposed to take you to my bloglines list and then you could peruse for yourself all the blogs I was reading. I tested Neil's bloglines link and the message I got was: You are already subscribed to that blog. Gee I didn't know that! I thought it was suppose to take me to Neil's list so that I could peruse other blogs. Apparently not. So what's the point of even having that link on my site? Perhaps I should remove it. Finally, it's okay if people put me on their lists or not. They know who I am when I comment and every once in awhile they stop by and leave a comment. I'm not in this to make money or to compete for rankings or a book deal. This is all about me. I enjoy writing. I enjoy reading. I enjoy opinions - mine and other's. I enjoy having fun. I enjoy the virtual interaction and hopefully one day when Neil comes to Atlanta I will finally get to have a face to face conversation with someone who is intrigued by life as much as I am. I welcome the opportunity to meet any other blogger in person too. I wouldn't read you and comment on your posts if I didn't like you.

Another thing I stopped doing - putting tags on my posts. Do you get that I don't like programming languages? It was just too much trouble creating the tags and then adding them to each and every posts. Again, what was the point? My blog would be competing with a million other blogs on that particular tag. I get a kick just knowing my blog shows up in Google searches. That's way more entertaining to me. :D

There is something I do like that Citizen of the Month uses and that is the Blog Crush of the Day. Perhaps that is an easier way to let other's know what you are reading instead of having a long blog roll. Maybe have Blog Crush of the Day, Blog Crush of the Week, Blog Crush of the Month and Blog Crush of the Year. On second thought, too much pressure deciding all those categories - Blog Crush of the Week would be about all I could handle. Whatever you do, have fun and don't stress.

I'm not modest but I will leave talking about private parts to the other woman out there!

Two Roads, good post. Thanks for the comment that led me here. We'll both get it all figured out. When Neil comes to Atlanta, be sure to have a raw chicken for him to clean so he can make you chicken soup. He'll love that.

I wanted to get away from kvethcing about my family (which I often do) and trying to focus more on my writing, which was my point of starting Publish or Perish. I didn't want to burden people with my mundane thoughts about life - I still think there are more excellent blogs for that. And also, I wanted to keep my more private life private.

Hmmm...this might have to be a post all it's own. Keep a look out for it.
